The Role: Commercial Solar Account Executive

We're seeking an experienced Commercial Solar Account Executive to lead business development and account management for our commercial and utility-scale solar projects. You'll own complex sales cycles—from prospect identification and needs discovery through proposal development and contract close—working directly with facility managers, C-suite executives, and contractors to solve their energy challenges and build long-term partnerships.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and close deals for commercial rooftop, ground-mount, and utility-scale solar installations across California
  • Craft technical sales proposals that translate complex solar engineering into business value for clients
  • Navigate the California regulatory landscape, including PTO (interconnection) processes, permitting, and compliance requirements
  • Build relationships with key decision-makers, engineers, architects, and construction partners
  • Own the pipeline — you'll manage your own prospecting, outreach, and lead nurturing with full visibility and support
  • Contribute to our CRM evolution — help us build and refine the systems that will scale our sales operation as we grow
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with our technical and operations teams to ensure smooth handoffs and client success

This is a role where you'll bring not just sales acumen, but genuine expertise in the solar space and California's unique market dynamics.

What We're Looking For

Core Requirements

  • 5+ years in the solar industry — you know this market inside and out
  • Proven sales experience in commercial or utility-scale solar (or adjacent energy sectors)
  • Technical depth — strong understanding of solar system design, equipment, and project economics; able to speak intelligently with engineers and facility directors
  • California regulatory expertise — working knowledge of interconnection (PTO) processes, Title 24, and local permitting timelines
  • Commercial construction acumen — familiarity with general contracting, construction timelines, and contractor relationships
  • Prevailing wage & public works knowledge — experience with Davis-Bacon, SCA compliance, and public agency procurement
  • Sales proposal writing — comfortable drafting technical, client-facing proposals and RFP responses

What Success Looks Like in Year One

  • You've developed and closed 3–5 significant commercial or utility-scale deals
  • You've built a qualified pipeline of 8–12 active opportunities representing $2M+ in potential project value
  • You've contributed meaningfully to our CRM strategy — identifying what we need, testing tools, and training the team
  • You've become a trusted resource internally for California regulatory and construction process questions
  • You've established relationships with key contractors, architects, and facility managers in your region

 Location: California (primary focus; travel required for client meetings)

 Compensation: Competitive base + performance-based commission structure (details discussed during interview)
